Rodeo / Bull Riding

animalMainstreamMexico / American West, 1820

Staying mounted on a bucking bull or bronco for eight seconds with one hand, no helmet optional. Rodeo is the most dangerous eight seconds in sport — raw courage measured against a one-ton animal.

History

Rodeo evolved from the working skills of Mexican vaqueros and American cowboys in the early 19th century. The first formal rodeos appeared in the 1880s. Bull riding has become the marquee event, drawing millions of viewers through the PBR circuit.

Culture

Rodeo culture is Western heritage at full volume — boots, buckles, prayer before the ride, and a toughness code that borders on mythology. The community honors tradition while the athletes push human limits.
