Track Cycling

wheelNicheEurope, 1870

Fixed-gear racing on a banked oval velodrome, stripped to the purest expression of speed on two wheels. Track cycling is chess at 70km/h — tactics, timing, and raw power distilled.

History

Velodrome racing was among the most popular spectator sports of the late 19th century. The six-day race was a cultural phenomenon. Track cycling has been in every modern Olympics and continues to produce some of the most dramatic finishes in sport.

Culture

Track culture combines old-world tradition with a fixie-punk aesthetic. The velodrome is a theater, and the riders are both athletes and tacticians performing for crowds who understand every move.
