Supercross

motorMainstreamCalifornia, USA, 1972

Indoor motocross on a manufactured dirt track inside stadiums, featuring massive jumps and tight rhythm sections. Supercross is motocross distilled into a spectacle — louder, closer, more intense.

History

The first stadium motocross events appeared in the early 1970s in the Los Angeles Coliseum. Supercross grew into its own discipline with its own championship, separate from outdoor motocross, and became one of the highest-attended motorsport series in America.

Culture

Supercross culture is spectacle-driven — pyrotechnics, packed stadiums, prime-time television. But beneath the production, the racing is as raw and demanding as anything on dirt.
